The Integra was the first car debuted by Acura in 1985 just before Honda announced that Acura was a new Luxury car division. Going on sale in America in the same year. The new Acura Integra engines was the 1.6L DOHC [double overhead camshaft] four cylinder engine as a power source. For all practical purposes Acura Integra engines are really made by Honda.
The first generation Acura Integra was produced from 1985 to 1989 and used two different motors. A 1.5L EW model engine and a 1.6L ZC model engine were the only choices back then.
The second generation Integra with factory codes [good item to know if you are shopping for a new engine] DA5-DA9, DB1-DB2, was produced from 1990 through 1993. This marked the advent of VTEC engineering with the 1.6L B16A engine. The other 4 engines offered were; a 1.6L ZC engine, 1.7L B17A1, 1.8L B18A1 and 1.8L B18B engines.
The third generation was manufactured by Acura from 1993 to 2001 and used these three options;
a 1.6L ZC engine, 1.8L B18B, B18B1; 1.8L B18C; B18C1 and B18C5 motors. The Integra received a shot of luxury in this generation to compete with other manufacturers trying to dominate this field.
The final generation of Acura Integra was made from 2002 to 2006. This model used the Honda K family of engines, which included the 2.0L K20A; K20A2 [02-04], K20A3 and the K20Z1 in 2005 and 2006.
We all know that Honda and Acura engines are world renowned for being reliable and durable. One thing about Honda and Acura, for a smaller to mid sized car, it may be the best overall car produced. Understanding that they may cost a small amount [if any] more than the competitors. Well worth the difference in price in my opinion.
I feel the same way about engines. When it comes time for a replacement engine in one of my vehicles or more often when a friend asks my advise is “a new engine is what the car came with, so if you want to get the extended amount of miles out of a replacement engine buy a new engine. It costs a few bucks more now, but lasts so long it’s actually cheaper in the long run, and it increases the cars value if you sell it“.
